About Us

Wycliffe Bible Translators of Canada was incorporated in 1968. As part of Wycliffe International, it works in partnership with thousands of expatriate and national workers worldwide in the ministries of Bible translation. Wycliffe partners with churches and other mission agencies in their countries to present the Bible translation task to the Christian public in order to mobilize personnel, raise funds and promote prayer. Our mission is:

"To empower indigenous people worldwide for spiritual, personal and social growth through Bible translation and other language-related ministries."

Many Wycliffe members are assigned to SIL International, a partner organization of Wycliffe dedicated to training, language research, translation and literacy. Some 5,900 Wycliffe members serve around the world and hundreds more are preparing for service.

Wycliffe members assist indigenous communities in a variety of linguistic-related tasks such as:

  • devising an alphabet;
  • analyzing the grammar and sound patterns;
  • producing print or audio materials.

These in turn pave the way for Bible translation, which may take many years to complete. Whenever possible, we encourage mother-tongue translators to take the lead, while we serve as facilitators and consultants.

Wycliffe Canada also promotes literacy-based development—so people can read God's Word and other materials, as a basis for personal and community development.

Wycliffe Canada's ministries include service to these language communities:
