Position: Administrative Assistant
Location: Calgary
Time Scale: Starts now, full time

Description: An experienced administrative assistant is urgently needed at our Canadian headquarters in Calgary. Responsibilities would include:

  • replying to phone and written requests for information, and developing and maintaining organized, accurate records of communications which are available to the administrator;
  • maintaining an adequate and concise flow of information with related departments;
  • gathering information necessary to prepare special or periodic reports such as progress reports, personnel activities or project funding;
  • assisting in preparation and co-ordination of departmental budgets, and in the planning and logistical arrangements for workshops, training courses and conferences;
  • designing and producing departmental publicity or information materials such as news sheets, reports, or illustrated booklets in consultation with administration;
  • maintaining relationships with field workers and office staff, co-ordinating activities for efficient and smooth operation.

Position: Calgary Building Maintenance Worker
Location: Calgary
Time Scale: Starts Sept. 2011, part time

Description: Bible translation overseas can't happen without the valuable support services provided by home offices around the world. In Calgary, we need an all-around handy person to keep our office building functioning well, while looking clean and attractive. Your duties would include:

  • painting;
  • doing minor repairs/alterations to masonry and woodwork as well as repair to light fixtures;
  • cleaning and polishing;
  • repairing electrical wiring and controls, heating, ventilation and cooling systems, and plumbing.

Reporting to the Calgary Office Manager, you would also make recommendations regarding safety and security issues. Some background and experience in construction and maintenance would be helpful.

Position: Partnership Development Co-ordinator
Location: Calgary preferred but negotiable
Time Scale: Starts now, part time

Description: Wycliffe Canada members live by faith, trusting God to provide for their daily needs through financial support from interested partners—such as friends, family members and churches. As P.D. Co-ordinator, you will:

  • help new and existing Wycliffe members strengthen these partnerships, through effective training and mentoring;
  • ensure that such training is provided to members serving in regional centres across Canada;
  • assist directors and managers in identifying and helping members in need of P.D. assistance;
  • help develop appropriate policies and procedures for P.D.;
  • represent Wycliffe Canada's partnership system to those inside and outside the organization.

Position: Seniors Adviser
Location: Calgary

Description: If you enjoy caring for and encouraging people, this job's for you! Responsibilities include helping senior and retiring staff in planning for retirement, and compiling a list of helpful resources. Furthermore, the Seniors Adviser will:

  • provide activities and assessments for senior staff that will promote spiritual, relational and emotional vitality;
  • assist in problem-solving;
  • attend to concerns of transitioning senior members;
  • facilitate dialogue and conflict resolution.

The successful applicant should be able to assist senior and retired staff in understanding the impact of stress or trauma in their lives and help them develop self-care strategies. An understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal conflict is required, along with training in dealing with conflict biblically.

Position: Foreign Worker Co-ordinator
Location: Calgary
Time Scale: Starts now, part time

Description: Wycliffe Canada frequently benefits from international Wycliffe members, interns and volunteers who serve in Canada or overseas, under Wycliffe Canada's authority, for varying periods of time. We need someone with good interpersonal skills and strong communication skills to interact with key officials in embassies and consulates, to enable the efficient processing of travel visas and other documents.  You will assist applicants to complete the necessary forms, submit visa applications and collect the visas when they are granted. In addition, you will be responsible to answer phone and written inquiries related to visa processing; maintain detailed records of correspondence and advise members about permanent residence and citizen requirements. Knowledge of Wycliffe and SIL's field policies and procedures is helpful; training and orientation provided.

Position: Receipts Clerk
Location: Calgary
Time Scale: Starts now, full time preferred but negotiable

Description: Wycliffe Canada is deeply grateful for the donations we receive from generous financial partners across the country. We're committed to providing excellent "customer service" for these partners, as well as more than 400 Wycliffe members, through timely, courteous, confidential and professional communication by letter, email and telephone. The successful applicant will possess good math, computer and data entry skills along with a good working knowledge of basic financial functions, such as chequing accounts and credit cards. Must have at least six months experience in performing the basic clerical procedures of a financial operation. Experience could include work as a cashier, payroll clerk, bank teller or accounts payable/receivable clerk. Training and orientation will be provided.

Position: Computer Support Specialist

Position: Graphic Design Manager
Location: Calgary
Time Scale: Starts now, full or part time

Description: Our busy communications department is in need of an experienced graphic designer. We're looking for a capable manager who can formulate concepts, as well as execute and oversee design and production of publicity materials that include Wycliffe's award-winning quarterly magazine, Word Alive. Other materials needed may include displays, merchandise, signage and more. The graphic design manager is responsible to:

  • Confer with the vice-president of communications and internal clients to determine budgets, objectives, appropriate media, etc.
  • Gather any background information relevant to project
  • Prioritize requests plus track, handle and maintain records for multiple projects
  • Design layouts and prepare designs for production, or supervise graphic designers
  • Select, supervise and obtain cost estimates from outside vendors
  • Review the quality of final product before releasing to client.

As manager, you would also be committed to delivering work to clients within specified budgets and deadlines. Graduates of a 2-year technical or 4-year design program are preferred, along with previous experience using InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop.

Position: Writer/Editor

Description: Are you a writer who loves writing for a variety of media? Do you have training or experience in journalism or publicity? We are looking for the right person to join our editorial team. You will assist the Editorial Manager and Web Manager in writing, editing and developing content for Wycliffe Canada's web site, publications and other print media. As a member of the Communications Department based in Calgary, you'll be joining some highly creative co-workers who enjoy producing cutting-edge materials like our award-winning magazine, Word Alive. Duties may include writing, editing and/or proofreading press releases, brochures, non-print media scripts, advertising copy and web content. The position could start at three days per week and ideally grow into a full-time role.

Position: Chinese Ministries Communication Officer
Location: Calgary
Time Scale: Starts now, full time

Description: Bible translation programs are beginning at an unprecedented rate. It's likely that work will be underway in every language still needing translation by 2025—giving everyone the opportunity to hear God speak to them in their heart language. But there are many Chinese Christians who have not yet heard what God is doing in the area of Bible translation, and don't know that they have a vital role to play in this key ministry of the Church. We need to get the word out! If you have communication and promotional skills, your help is needed to further Bible translation and see the vision become reality.

As communication officer, you will:

  • engage/encourage Chinese Canadian churches in world missions through relevant vision sharing, especially the need for Bible translation;
  • translate and develop needed media resources;
  • oversee a variety of projects;
  • co-ordinate with leadership and the relevant departments the changes required within;
  • train junior editors and translators to be senior members of the team;
  • implement servant-empowered leadership within the team.

Qualification: Be willing to develop one's fluency to the level of a native English, Cantonese and Mandarin speaker.

  • actively coach and recruit potential career members and volunteers;
  • assist in the training and orientation of volunteers;
  • assist the Alberta team leader in developing a tactical plan for Alberta mobilization;
  • represent Wycliffe Canada at ministerial meetings and missions conferences, and speak to church and campus groups about Bible translation needs.
