Studio Wycliffe Film Trip - Registration Closed

Cross-cultural documentary workshop

Are you a budding Christian filmmaker with at least two years of film school (or equivalent university degree) just itching to work overseas? Are you a flexible and teachable team player looking to develop the craft of documentary storytelling? This summer will be our first Studio Wycliffe Film Trip. A five-week mission internship of pure cinematic adventure and lots of hard work, framed within a workshop environment.

Our goal on this trip is to tell one story focused around the Bible translation ministry, as well as filming for a second promotional story. It begins with some research on the ground in Guatemala, before carrying the primary project through to final editing and output. Our main base will be in Sololá, Guatemala, an absolute picturesque locale to stir up your creative juices.

Be prepared for an experience of a lifetime as you go behind the scenes of Viña, (a unique audio/video ministry run by a diverse team representing Mayan, Latin and North American culture), eat some traditional Guatemalan cuisine, grow your creative and spiritual gifts, and so much more. Oh, did we mention there's lots of hard work?

Three interns will be accepted for this unique hands-on mission trip. Please email your resume to: . In addition, we would like to preview some of your best work. Student projects are accepted. Kindly state your role in each project with web links.

Trip Leader

Chris Coffyn, Wycliffe Canada’s Director of Photography, Editor and all that jazz, will lead the group. Chris has more than 25 years experience in video production. He has produced documentaries around the world in locations as diverse as the rain forests of Papua New Guinea, the Australian outback and Mayan ruins in southern Mexico. Visit our videos page to see examples of recent work. Chris also has the unique distinction of once interviewing a monkey that promptly destroyed his microphone (You'll have to ask him about that tale).

"Participating in an internship with Wycliffe, I found myself challenged and pushed to apply the training I received in film school. Then, in the editing room, learning to shape the stories that I captured and experiencing how important post-production is in telling the story, was an eye opener. The experience really showed me that there is another kind of adventure that God can take me on to use my passion for filmmaking, and it's bigger than I could have imagined!"
-Michael Janke, Video intern with Wycliffe Canada
