Word Alive magazine, the flagship publication of Calgary-based Wycliffe Bible Translators of Canada, has won six awards for issues published in 2007. The Canadian Church Press (CCP) and the Evangelical Press Association (EPA) each gave the magazine three awards for general excellence, writing, photography and design at recent conventions in early May.
Word Alive is sent four times annually to 25,000 addresses among Wycliffe's constituency across Canada and elsewhere, to keep them abreast of efforts by Wycliffe and partners in the world's Bible translation movement.
The CCP, comprised of more than 70 member publications across Canada, issued the following awards to Word Alive:
- Biographical Profile (living or dead)–Magazine: Third Place–"Take Me to the Upper Land." Author: Dwayne Janke
- Colour Photo–Magazine: First Place–HIV/AIDS Victim and Wife in Chad, Africa. Photographer: Alan Hood
- Feature Layout & Design–Magazine: Third Place –"From Cowshed to Village Square." Designer: Laird Salkeld
The EPA represents about 300 member publications throughout the U.S. and Canada. Its awards to Word Alive included:
- Award of Excellence–Missionary category: Award of Merit
- Higher Goal Award–Article Series: First Place –"India" by Dwayne Janke
- Higher Goal Award–Two-page spread design: Fifth Place–"Breaking the Silence" by Laird Salkeld
