Wycliffe Canada Helps Fill Void in Missions Materials for Children
Apr. 2/09

Wycliffe Bible Translators of Canada is helping to fill a major void identified by church leaders ministering to children—a lack of materials educating and inspiring youngsters about missions.

Christy Edwards, Wycliffe Canada children’s ministries coordinator, says she is repeatedly being told about the shortage by pastors, Sunday school teachers, parents and other organizations as she travels in Christian circles.

The issue arose again on a recent visit that Edwards made to 12 Ottawa churches, explaining what Wycliffe Canada has to offer in the form of books, literature, lesson and activity plans on CD, and interactive media.

“They have been looking for the product we have the ability to deliver,” says Edwards. “I have been talking with pastors and they are asking for mission-based curriculums and how to know which curriculums to use.”

Pastor Ron Rudd, who heads children and family ministries with The Metropolitan Bible Church in Ottawa, is encouraged by what Wycliffe Canada is offering.

“I think that this is so important that we cast the vision out to those who are so sensitive to the calling of God on their lives,” says Rudd. “As a pastor, I am so thankful to see some of the materials that Wycliffe is coming out with to help us in giving a vision for the world to our kids.

“I will be looking forward . . . to Wycliffe continuing to lead in this vital ministry,” he adds.

Wycliffe Canada has launched a section on its website (www.wycliffe.ca/kids), in part offering free curriculum, tried and tested simulation games, stories, discussion material and more. They are designed to help children’s ministry staff present the challenge of missions, especially the need for God’s Word to be in the heart languages of all peoples.

“I’m passionate about getting children excited—and involved—in helping people around the world receive the life-changing Word of God in their heart languages,” says Edwards. “Whether you’re a teacher, club leader or a parent wishing to help your child gain a wider appreciation of what God is doing in world mission, this developing web section is for you.”

Wycliffe Canada has also prepared a catalogue of materials that are free or available for purchase.

Edwards can be contacted for more information, by email at <childrens_ministry@wycliffe.ca> or by phone at 1-800-463-1143, ext. 312.
