Word Alive magazine has received four awards for content in 2008 from the Evangelical Press Association (EPA) and the Canadian Church Press (CCP).
At the EPA convention in Indianapolis, Wycliffe Canada's magazine was given an "Award of Merit" in the "Missionary" magazine category. It placed second among all entries from North America for overall excellence, based on the category judge's evaluation of writing, content and graphics. The magazine received 133 out of a possible 160 points for three consecutive issues in 2008. Word Alive also received a 4th-place award in the "Single Photo/Candid" category, for Alan Hood's image of Amazon Indian children sledding on palm tree fronds (published in the Summer 2008 issue).
In Winnipeg, the magazine was given two awards from the CCP. It placed third for "Feature Layout and Design" in the magazine category, for "The Main Attraction" story (published in the Summer 2008 edition). Word Alive was also awarded a third place for "Colour Photo Spread" for Alan's Amazon Indian children sledding photo (in the Summer 2008 magazine).
Word Alive is entered in competitions by the EPA and the CCP, in part to receive constructive feedback and evaluation from media professionals who are judging writing, photography and graphics. The award entries, as well as the conference workshops and interaction, provide a valuable form of professional development for Wycliffe's communications staff.
