The youngest person to ever lead Wycliffe Bible Translators of Canada will take the helm later this year, as the organization seeks to increasingly mobilize the next generation of Canadians to further Bible translation around the world.

Hart Wiens, chair of the Wycliffe Canada board of directors, recently announced the unanimous decision of the board to appoint 39-year-old Roy Eyre as the next president of Wycliffe Canada, when Don Hekman completes his term in November.
“For a young man, Roy Eyre has accumulated a lot of leadership experience and already gained recognition as an emerging leader in Wycliffe,” says Wiens.
“Roy is a strategic, conceptual, and possibilities thinker with proven ability to lead change. . . . He has demonstrated his ability to attract and build high-performing teams. He is an empowering, collaborative decision maker with a preference for partnering over working in isolation. He is committed to ongoing growth and development both personally and professionally.”
“I’m excited to take on this challenge,” says Eyre. “I think what excites me most is the potential I see in Wycliffe Canada to tap into the vast resources Canada has to offer for cross-cultural work. At the same time, I recognize that this is a big jump in responsibility for me, and there are significant challenges for the organization in the next few years.”
Eyre was born in Toronto, Ont. and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, after his family moved to the U.S. in 1980. He met his wife Becky in college, and they began to pursue missions together. While studying graphic design at Georgia State, he ran the design department of a startup PR firm, where he was able to participate in the birth of new companies and the rebranding of a variety of clients.
In 1997, the Eyres joined Wycliffe, and later travelled to Canada in 1998, where Eyre managed a team of designers in Wycliffe Canada’s communications department until 2002. After four years in Canada and two more in Orlando, Florida, in a similar role in Wycliffe USA, Eyre left graphic design behind and moved into administration. Three months as a project manager in the president’s office launched him into leadership in recruitment ministries for four years. He first provided resources for recruiters and then led a team of vocational and generational recruiters.
Since 2009, Eyre has directed the work of leadership development for Wycliffe USA. An avid learner, he has pursued on-going training in leadership through a wide variety of seminars, conferences and classes over the years.
He and his wife are raising two sons, 11 and nine, and a daughter, five. Eyre has also served as an elder at his church for four years.
In explaining ways the Lord has been preparing him for this new role, Eyre says, “I believe the best preparation God has given me through some difficult challenges in the last few years is a keen understanding that I can do nothing on my own. It is only through His power and presence that I can be successful.”
