Word Alive Wins Five Awards for 2010

May 17/11

Word Alive magazine has received five awards from the Evangelical Press Association (EPA) and Canadian Church Press (CCP) for writing, photography and design in issues published in 2010.

In the EPA’s Awards of Excellence category, Word Alive was given the Award of Merit as the second-best Missions publication in North America. TEAM Horizons placed first in the contest for EPA-member publications during the 2010 calendar year.

The magazine also won a “Higher Goals” award in the “Personality Article” category for “Family Resemblance,” the article by Deborah Crough about Erin Chapman (Summer 2010). It was recognized as the fourth-place winner.

In the EPA’s “Publication Design” category, Laird Salkeld’s work on Word Alive was awarded fifth place.

The prizes were presented at the Evangelical Press Association’s annual convention, held in early May in Chicago.

Word Alive was recognized with two awards of merit at the CCP convention, also held at Chicago in early May as part of a joint gathering with the American Church Press.

“Eager Tetun Students,” a photo shot in Timor, Indonesia, by Alan Hood (Fall 2010), was given a first-place prize as the best magazine colour photo.

The article “Family Resemblance” was named as the second-place winner among magazine biographical profile stories in the contest.

Word Alive’s writing, photos and design is entered in the EPA and CCP contests each year as a valuable form of professional feedback and critique, from judges both inside and outside the world of Christian journalism.
