Race to 2025: Peru
September 2 - 4 and 9 - 11, 2011
Frontier Lodge, Nordegg, Alberta
Inspired by intense language survey trips conducted by Wycliffe
linguists in remote regions worldwide, this race is hosted in the Canadian Rockies. Four-member
teams race against time and each other in demanding linguistic and summer mountain challenges,
all in search of a remote ‘Bibleless’ tribe. Upon contact, teams share an ethnic meal with villagers who
speak no English, conduct a simulated language survey and race to the finish with valuable linguistic
data.
The Purpose of Race to 2025: Peru
- Raise awareness of the plight of the world’s 2,040 Bibleless people groups representing 350
million people.
- Cross-seed missions vision across Canada and foster a close, interconnected community of young
adults passionate for the least reached and God’s heart for the nations.
- Raise $50,000 for project focusing on the East Apurimac Quechua Bible translation project of
Peru.
- Provide opportunities for young Canadians to take next steps in the global Bible translation
movement—as advocates, intercessors, interns, and long-term missionaries.
Race Impact
- 48 young people effectively served as representatives and advocates for Wycliffe Canada and the
Bibleless peoples of the world to hundreds of new contacts across Western Canada.
- Hundreds of people have donated to the cause through the racers. Many of these people have
never before donated to Wycliffe and have indicated they would like to receive more information.
- Participants from past and present races have and will be participating in Wycliffe overseas
volunteer work projects. Others have signed up to receive missionary training at the Canada Institute
of Linguistics and still others are in application to join Wycliffe long term.
Team names were derived from actual names of Bibleless people groups in Peru. Teams came from Germany, Alberta, Manitoba, and British Columbia.
