Q. How many languages are there?
A. According to data compiled by Wycliffe Global Alliance, there are 6,837 known living languages in the world.

Q. How many languages have Scripture?
A. 2,696. Of these, 471 have a complete Bible, another 1,223 have the New Testament. 1,002 others have some portions of Scriptures.

Q. How many languages still need translation?
A. In addition to the active projects, work needs to begin in 2,040 languages.

Q. How many people have no Scripture?
A. About 350 million.

Q. How long does it take to translate a New Testament?
A. There are many steps involved in the work of Bible translation. It can take from 10 to 20 years, or longer depending on many factors such as:
- the level of the local peoples' participation
- living conditions
- health of the translators
- other mission responsibilities of the translator.

Q. What training do I need to be a translator?
A. Bible training, spiritual development, cultural education and language education are all key parts of preparing yourself for Bible translation work. For training in linguistics, Wycliffe Canada is pleased to partner with the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL), based at Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C. and Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto, Ont.
