CREECH, Cheryl and Ken

Ken and Cheryl grew up in southern Ontario and met at the University of Waterloo. After their marriage in 1982 they moved to Ottawa, where Ken worked in high tech and Cheryl taught high school French until she began homeschooling their three children. God opened the door for them to use their gifts with Wycliffe Canada in 1997 when they began preparing to serve language communities in support roles in Senegal, West Africa. Over 14 years, Ken provided leadership as a manager and branch director, while Cheryl homeschooled their children and was involved in member care. Although not on the front lines of Bible translation, they were glad to support their colleagues, freeing them for language work. Some highlights during their time in Senegal were four New Testament dedications and seeing some projects move from the first translated verse of Scripture to a completed New Testament.

Since returning to Canada and moving to British Columbia in 2015, Ken has worked as the V.P. of Administration at the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL), a Wycliffe Canada partner that trains linguists and translators. He has now retired from Wycliffe but continues to volunteer part time at CanIL.  Cheryl is the Applications Advisor West, guiding Wycliffe Canada applicants from the initial stages of the application process through membership to departure for their assignment. She is continuing to work half time with Wycliffe as she has for 5 years.

As the CanIL president reminded Ken and Cheryl, they haven’t “left the field,” but have only become more centrally located! They consider it a privilege to be investing in young people beginning their Bible translation journey and are excited to see them heading off to different areas of the world to be involved in providing Scriptures to language communities in their heart language.
