WEDEL, Kristy

South Pacific

Kristy was born and raised in Abbotsford, B.C.  Immediately after high school she had the opportunity to serve with Mennonite Central Committee in Paraguay for a year, then shortly after in Guatemala for another year.  She gained a global perspective and a heart for missions that has never left her.  A few years later Kristy found her love for linguistics and earned her BSc in linguistics at University of Victoria.  She then worked for many years with adults with developmental disabilities.

Kristy has now heard the call to step out in faith with Wycliffe, becoming a member of Wycliffe Canada in March 2019.  She has just finished the language survey training at the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL).  In the summer of 2020, Kristy plans to move to Papua New Guinea where she will begin  her work as a language surveyor.  Language survey is an essential first step in every translation project.
