At Home- Global Impact
"Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so...". How can we know Jesus without the Bible?
Wycliffe Canada acts as a bridge, bringing the Scriptures to all people in their heart languages. Linking people like you with the world's minority language groups, we work to see community transformation through Bible translation, use of translated Scriptures, mother-tongue literacy and education.
By getting involved, you can join the Bible translation movement and help fulfil the Great Commission. We joyfully anticipate the day that the last word of the last verse of Scripture will be translated for the last community. Only people like you can make that goal a reality.
Your financial support equips Canadian Wycliffe personnel serving all over the world as well as those providing the behind-the-scenes support here in Canada.
We are united in our goal of spreading the Good News. We know that the Word of God changes lives and communities for the better—when people understand it.
You can help make Vision 2025 a reality: to see Bible translation underway in every language that needs it by the year 2025.
Nearly 1,800 of the world's 6,900 languages do not have even one verse of God's Word. Your support, prayer and involvement can ensure that hundreds of millions of people hear the Word of God in their heart language.
In the words of one unreached woman speaking to a Wycliffe worker in the Ndop plains of Cameroon, “Sister, have you been knowing these things all along? Why didn’t you teach us long ago?”
Wycliffe Canada works to make sure God’s love is an open book. Like a surgeon in a hospital, a “front line” field staff member is only as effective as his or her team behind the scenes. The success of a surgery depends upon the janitor who sterilized the surgical room, the equipment manager who makes sure there is enough stock of medical supplies, the surgical assistant who hands the surgeon the right instruments at the right time, and the nurse who changes the bandages….
Wycliffe Canada recruits, equips, sends and supports staff overseas and here in Canada that help make translation ministries possible.
- Mobilization recruits talented members, interns and volunteers.
- The Communications team tells the stories — they are the eyes and ears of Canadian Christians to the world of Bible translation.
- Advancement interacts with those who faithfully support Bible translation.
- Church Connections engages churches in mutually beneficial relationships with global partners.
- The Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL) equips translators, linguists and educators.
- Member Care sends and supports staff, as well as interns and volunteers, to work with international partners.
- and many others…
Roy Eyre, president of Wycliffe Canada, elaborates,
“We all have a part to play, and God can put our resources together to create real impact. Wycliffe is not simply a group of translators. We’re a team of administrators, receipt clerks, teachers, photographers and church-goers, participating in God’s mission to transform and restore our world. We’re a Canadian movement that dares to dream that we can fuel a global Bible translation movement.”

As the Word of God breaks through, relationships are restored and hearts are healed. “When I first heard the Word of God in Chrambo [a Cameroonian language] I was amazed…it was like a dream,” explains one member of a village that was decimated in a tribal conflict. “I learned that I . . . can’t hate them [those that burned her village to the ground] and not forgive them, because I would want people to forgive me.” What a testimony! God’s Word magnificently transforms the heart.
Mother-tongue literacy is also changing lives. Women in particular are often left with fewer educational opportunities due to household duties, fear of being assaulted and other factors. In some regions where Wycliffe works, it is the first time in their history that boys and girls are learning together in the same classroom. In other places, it is the first time classrooms of girls are being taught. And the boys and girls are thriving.
You can make a lasting–even eternal–difference in people’s lives by providing God’s Word to them. Community leaders in Papua New Guinea (PNG) urge the Bible translation effort forward for the sake of their churches and communities. One leader explains, “God’s Word in our language is the best tool that the church, community leaders and parents can use to address the social, spiritual and political problems in Bougainville (his region of PNG) today”.
Please pray for unity, health and God’s protection on all of the staff affiliated with this work (Ephesians 6:12). For more ideas see our prayer resources.
