Papua New Guinea - Scripture Engagement
Papua New Guinea - Scripture Engagement
South Pacific

Overview

The rugged mountains of Papua New Guinea (PNG) are home to numerous language groups, with many communities living in remote and difficult-to-reach areas. Most people depend on the land for their livelihoods, and access to healthcare and education is limited.

A majority of people in PNG identify as Christian, but most have had few opportunities for clear biblical teaching. Communities face significant ongoing challenges, including trauma, family and community conflict, and a cultural tradition of retribution. People are eager for more biblical teaching and training, and often express a deep hunger for God’s Word.

Scripture engagement is essential for people to learn the truth of the gospel and apply it to their lives.

Your partnership is key

Your partnership helps equip people in Papua New Guinea to encounter God through His Word and understand and apply Scripture to their lives. Your support helps strengthen churches to reach their communities through gospel-centered, culturally relevant biblical teaching, and enables pastors in the same region to encourage one another as they grow in their teaching and outreach.

When translated Scripture is available and used in workshops, community support for Bible translation increases. Communities continue to reap the benefits from this training long after the workshops conclude.

  • The team equipped 449 people across six Scripture engagement and trauma healing workshops, strengthening the capacity of church leaders and local believers to teach and share God’s Word in their communities.

  • Local believers were equipped to bring Scripture to neighbouring villages. The newly formed Mamusi Scripture Engagement Team is sharing stories from the recently translated Gospel of John and trauma healing materials.

  • Communities affected by violence and conflict received biblical hope and healing. Church and community leaders in Enga Province were equipped to support survivors of trauma and encourage reconciliation.
