Growing up in West Africa, Rachel was immersed in missions from an early age. Those experiences sparked a lasting passion for the global church and, in particular, for seeing people encounter God through Scripture in their own language. After returning to Calgary as a teenager, she pursued that calling, earning a master’s degree in linguistics and exegesis.

In 2006, Rachel joined Wycliffe staff, and two years later she had the opportunity to serve overseas in a Bible translation project in Tanzania. It was there that she met her husband, Shady. They married in 2012 and moved to Toronto for Shady’s studies, while Rachel continued serving with Wycliffe.

When they returned to Calgary in 2013, Rachel served first in Wycliffe’s applications department and later in partnership development, helping Wycliffe staff build strong partnerships with people and churches committed to prayer and giving.

Today, Rachel serves as the Explorer Track Lead with Wycliffe’s Church Engagement team, where she leads the intern exchange program. She is passionate about giving the next generation an opportunity to see firsthand what God is doing around the world and to discover how they might be part of it.

Rachel’s desire is to see the Canadian church not simply support the Bible translation movement, but own it and help lead it. She believes that when people experience God’s work among the nations for themselves, it can awaken a deeper passion for God, the global church, and their own place in His mission.
