Alex Hoffmann was raised in a Christian home in Ottawa, Ont. He earned his BA in linguistics from the University of Ottawa in 2015 and his Master of Theological Studies from Conrad Grebel University College (University of Waterloo) in 2018. The latter included a linguistics internship in Cameroon, Africa with SIL, Wycliffe’s key partner organization.
Alex became a member of Wycliffe Canada in January 2020 and went to Papua New Guinea in April 2021 to work with SIL in that country. He is currently a member of the language services team who help Bible translators with their linguistics-related needs. His main focus is phonology (the study of how sounds work in languages). He also very much enjoys academic analysis of the Bible in their original languages and hopes to contribute in that capacity as well.
