Doug and his wife Barbara both grew up in Calgary and met while studying at Berean Bible College. Following their marriage in 1979, they travelled to B.C., where they attended a missions training course held by Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in the Fraser Valley. Subsequently, they served on staff with YWAM in B.C. and Alberta for five years.
In 1991, the Lockharts and their three children moved to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, where Doug served as a staff writer for YWAM’s University of the Nations (U of N) and Barbara received training in biblical counselling.
Since 1998, Doug has served Wycliffe Canada as an advocate for Bible translation through communications. He helps publicize Wycliffe’s work through writing, editing and proofreading a variety of print and digital publications, including In Other Words newsletter and Wycliffe Canada’s blog, Word Alive Now.
The Lockharts have three adult children and six grandchildren, all living in the Calgary area.
