Doug and his wife Barbara both grew up in Calgary and met while studying at Berean Bible College. Following their marriage in 1979, they received training from Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and later served on staff with YWAM in B.C. and Alberta for five years. In 1991, the Lockharts and their three children moved to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, where Doug served as a staff writer for YWAM’s University of the Nations (U of N) and Barbara received training in biblical counselling.

Since 1998, Doug has served Wycliffe Canada as an advocate for Bible translation through communications. He helps publicize Wycliffe’s work through Word Alive magazine and digital content in Word Alive Now

The Lockharts have three children and five grandchildren, all living in the Calgary area.
