Americas WINDSOR, Matt and Caitlin Since 2018 Matthew and Caitlin Windsor have been living and serving with their family in Kingfisher Lake Nation, a remote fly-in community in northwestern Ontario. Indigenous church leaders there are spearheading a Bible translation into their language, Anihshininiimowin (Oji-Cree). Matthew works under the indigenous church (Mishamikoweesh) to give ongoing training to the translators, advise on the Bible translation, and support the local language committee in keeping their language strong. Caitlin homeschools their four children and builds intentional relationships with local women. Together they aim to serve God faithfully in the community long-term. Both Caitlin and Matthew grew up in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, B.C., where they met at a local youth program. After his baptism as a young man, Matthew was intensely occupied with the question of how to reorient his passion for knowledge and bring it into the service of God’s kingdom. After a teacher recommended to him the field of linguistics, he learned about the ongoing worldwide need for Bible translation. In 2014, the community of Kingfisher Lake initiated a Bible translation to fulfill a vision of their elders, who desired to see God Word in their own language. Previously, Christians used a mixture of Cree and English resources to understand the Bible. From indigenous Bishop Lydia Mamakwa: “When we were younger, we saw our grandparents reading the prayer books, and we were taught the importance of prayer and doing devotions. To this day we have that because of how we were taught and trained. God speaks to us through his word; he breathes it out. Only God can help us and see us through this work we do.” From the translators: “I remember seeing my grandmother get up every morning, sing a hymn, and do her morning prayer in Cree. She would read to me but I couldn’t understand [Cree], even though I understood our language and could even read. Americas BUCKSHON, Cindy Born and raised in Langley, BC, Cindy joined Wycliffe Canada in 2012 as the graphic design manager. In 2016, she began working with the global communications team for SIL Global. In 2024, Cindy graduated from a 3D modelling and animation program and is now working as an animator and 3D modeller with the SIL Global Media Services department. Cindy works remotely from Calgary with a small team from Texas, North Carolina, and Manitoba. They are creating a series of short films based on Paul White’s The Jungle Doctor Picture Fables , which teach the gospel message and core Christian principles. The animation team’s vision is to have these fables translated into many languages worldwide. South Pacific MICHIE, Mitchell and Janeen Mitchell and Janeen are from Regina, Saskatchewan. Mitchell has a Master of Applied Linguistics and Exegesis and a Master of Arts in Intercultural Ministries. He joined Wycliffe in 2004 and Janeen in 2007. They are blessed with three beautiful children: Joshua, Isaac, and Jenessa. The Michies work for Wycliffe Bible Translators in Papua New Guinea and are based at the mission centre in the Eastern Highlands province. They work to make Scripture available to Kala and Binumarien language groups. Mitchell advises and trains national co-workers and fosters literacy among the language groups. Janeen has worked with the communications department as a professional photographer, writer, and producer of short films. Americas BUHLER, Don and Jackie “From Him (Christ), the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love as each part does its work” (Eph 4:16). This verse describes Don and Jackie’s motivation: being present to address challenges, encourage, and do whatever it takes so that others can function effectively, allows Wycliffe Canada to accomplish its mission, and demonstrates the truth of this passage. Don and Jackie married in 1982, while Jackie was training to be a nurse and Don worked on a bachelor of commerce degree. Later, Don completed his certified management accounting (CMA) designation while employed as an accountant. In 1993, Don and Jackie felt challenged by a Wycliffe speaker, who urged his audience to consider a life beyond the direction they were headed. “In our faith journeys,” says Don, “we had developed a love for God’s Word so Wycliffe was a ‘natural’ choice for entering missions.” The Buhlers joined Wycliffe in 1994. In September 1995, they arrived in Nairobi, Kenya with their three children, to begin working with SIL International, a Wycliffe partner doing Bible translation around the world. Don’s initial assignment was accountant for the eastern Zaire office, working from Nairobi, while Jackie served as medical liaison for colleagues living and working in Zaire. When their youngest child started school, Jackie joined the personnel department and soon realized that she loved to work with people. Because of a shortage of qualified accountants, Don assisted in setting up a regional accounting office for the Bible translation task in eastern Africa, and began to train and mentor local accountants. This training continued after he moved into an Africa-wide role in 2003. During this time, he completed an MA in leadership from Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C. Jackie continued her involvement in personnel as well as member care, and also served on an advisory group for the mobile member care team, a small organization dedicated to building resilience in cross-cultural workers. In 2010, the Buhlers moved to Calgary, where Don served as vice-president of administration and Jackie served in Wycliffe Canada’s personnel department. Don left his role at the end of 2015, and is now chief financial officer (CFO) for SIL International. Based in Calgary, he travels to various meetings in the U.S. and other parts of the world. Jackie also served as the vice-president of Wycliffe Canada’s people department. In that role, she helped build a team dedicated to helping Wycliffe Canada staff be successful in their roles. ‎ EYRE, Roy and Becky Since joining Wycliffe in 1997, Roy and Becky Eyre have dedicated their careers to helping minority language communities flourish through engagement with God's Word. Their service in communications, leadership, and administration has taken them from Calgary to Orlando, and back to Calgary in 2011 when Roy was appointed president of Wycliffe Canada. Today, Becky leads Wycliffe Canada’s efforts to see all staff fully funded and supported in prayer. ‎ H., Heidi Heidi was hoping to move to Denmark during her journalism studies when her professor asked, “Would you consider studying in Hong Kong?” Consequently, a semester of study at Hong Kong Baptist University gave her a love for Asia and opportunities to visit China, intern in Cambodia, and work in India. Then, when Heidi was about to return to Asia, a Cafe Wycliffe speaker in Winnipeg (where she is originally from) urged her to meet some Bible translators there. The next day Heidi read Joshua 1:9 (New Living Translation) “This is my command – be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Heidi changed her flights. From the first day of her visit, she was inspired by all of the amazing people she met, who told stories of their faith journeys and encouraged her to join them. After moving to Asia, Heidi began serving with Wycliffe’s key partner, SIL, in 2015. She works alongside leaders of SIL and local Bible translation and language development organizations, sharing reports and stories of what God is doing through their ministries. In the past year, Heidi has been thrilled to celebrate the publication of eight New Testaments, two full Bibles, and a trilingual dictionary. Heidi served as the Asia communications point person (2016-2019) and director of communications for SIL South & Islands Asia (2019-2024), working with the leadership team to increase communication between leaders and local staff. Southeast Asia FRIESEN, Derryl and Karen Derryl and Karen were born in Canada but have lived most of their lives as global citizens around the world; in Mexico, USA, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Kenya, Europe, South Africa and now Southeast Asia. As young children, they separately began their journeys as “Missionary Kids” in Mexico, doing Wycliffe’s iconic Jungle Camp along with their parents. Serendipitously, both families then took up their first assignments in Papua New Guinea, where Derryl and Karen first met. While growing up in PNG, both Derryl and Karen felt the clear call of God to serve Him in missions. After completing high school in PNG, both returned to Canada where Derryl trained as a journeyman cabinetmaker. They married in September 1982 and then joined Wycliffe Canada in August 1988. Two years later, they took up their first assignment in Kenya, Africa (1990-1998) along with their two small children, Shane and Carissa. Derryl used his trade to help build the Ruiru Bible Translation and Conference Centre. There in Nairobi, their youngest son, Zachrie, was born. When Derryl and Karen returned to Canada, they had the joy of helping establish and lead Wycliffe Canada’s NextGen Ministries team. For 13 years, they helped mobilize young Canadians for missions through fresh innovations like Café Wycliffe, Race to 2025 adventure events and discovery trips to Sudan, Kenya, and Nepal. Since 2013, Derryl and Karen have served in Thailand as Wycliffe Canada’s Southeast (SE) Asia field partner liaisons. One of their key roles is to continue fostering multiple, long-term Kingdom Friendships between partners in Canada and Bible translation and related projects in Southeast Asia. Derryl and Karen praise God for the faithful team they serve along side in Southeast Asia; both those whom they helped recruit during their time in Canada, as well as the many young, motivated national workers being mobilized from within the Southeast Asia region. In 2022, Derryl and Karen celebrated 40 years of marriage and 34 years with Wycliffe. They praise God that all three of their married children and spouses continue to love and serve the Lord. Global HONG, Hyunmin (Joseph) and Guiju (Ju) Hyunmin (Joseph) and Guiju (Ju) joined Wycliffe Canada in 2003. Since then, they have served at Wycliffe USA’s office in Orlando, Fla. (2004 – 2008), the Wycliffe Global Alliance office in Singapore (2008 – 2010), the Wycliffe Global Alliance Asia-Pacific office in Manila, Philippines (2011 – 2016) and the Global Bible Translators in Korea (2017 – currently). Joseph and Ju research and provide training to local churches and seminaries on topics like Mission of God and Church, Missional Life of God’s People, Missional Interpretation of the Bible, Intercultural Communication & Leadership and Early Church. South Pacific MEISNER, Janine Janine grew up in the Philippines as a daughter of missionary teachers, and knew from a young age that she also wanted to be a missionary teacher. After obtaining her degree, and gaining three years of experience in a Manitoba school, she joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2001. Janine’s experiences as a third culture kid (TCK) led her to move back to the Philippines in 2001. She had various roles at Faith International Academy in Davao City over the years which included teaching students in elementary (grades 3 & 5) and middle school (grades 6-8). She especially enjoyed being in leadership as the middle school lead teacher and then as the K-12 principal.
