Americas HETTINGA, Justin and Tammy Justin grew up in Saskatoon, Sask., while Tammy grew up in Chilliwack, B.C. and later (junior and senior high years) in the Peruvian Amazon as a Wycliffe missionary kid. This prairie boy and jungle girl met at Canadian Bible College in Regina, Sask. Their shared interest in South America and their desire to serve in cross-cultural ministry were two of many things that sparked their relationship, which resulted in marriage in 1994. They joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1997 and began their training with Wycliffe Canada’s training partner, the Canada Institute of Linguistics, in 1998. By 1999, they were on their way to Costa Rica for Spanish studies. The following year, they began their first assignment in Peru as adult literacy specialists among the Quechua people. There they helped several indigenous organizations develop sustainable literacy and Bible translation programs. In 2007, Justin completed his master of arts in leadership degree (non-governmental organization specialization) from Trinity Western University (done mostly via distance while in Peru). Having completed their project in the summer of 2010, they moved to Wycliffe Canada’s headquarters in Calgary, where they served on the leadership/administrative team for six years. In May 2016, Justin began serving as the Americas Area director for SIL (Wycliffe’s main field partner). In this role, he gives leadership to all of SIL’s work in North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean. Tammy is his administrative assistant. Although their roles have changed over the years, their vision remains the same: that all peoples on earth have access to the Word of God in a language they understand best, enabling them to flourish in life and know God. Global DIRKS, Wayne and Valerie Wayne and Valerie serve at Wycliffe Canada’s head office in Calgary, where they support the huge task of translating the Word of God into the languages of the world that don’t have it yet. Wayne helps in custom website programming and design. Valerie serves in a leadership role, supporting administrative roles. Wayne and Valerie began their journey with Wycliffe in 1994, serving first in Kenya, where Wayne worked in IT support and Scripture publishing for 18 New Testaments in different languages across Africa. Valerie’s role included supporting other staff involved in the work. South Pacific MEISNER, Janine Janine grew up in the Philippines as a daughter of missionary teachers, and knew from a young age that she also wanted to be a missionary teacher. After obtaining her degree, and gaining three years of experience in a Manitoba school, she joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2001. Janine’s experiences as a third culture kid (TCK) led her to move back to the Philippines in 2001. She had various roles at Faith International Academy in Davao City over the years which included teaching students in elementary (grades 3 & 5) and middle school (grades 6-8). She especially enjoyed being in leadership as the middle school lead teacher and then as the K-12 principal. Janine returned to Canada in June 2025 and is currently working in Calgary as the Director of Applications and Short Term Staff. ‎ MEJIA, Braden and Stephanie Braden and Stephanie became members of Wycliffe in 2025 and 2024 respectively. They met at the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL), Wycliffe’s training partner at Trinity Western University. There, Braden completed his MA in Linguistics and Translation and Stephanie her BA in Linguistics. They’ve been married since January 2025 and are currently working toward an assignment in Francophone Africa, where they will serve in linguistics, literacy and translation. ‎ LUONG, Raymond and Lucy Raymond and Lucy take delight in the power of God’s Word to transform believers worldwide. They are inspired by the impact made when churches in minority language communities have the Scripture in their mother tongues. When local churches have access to the Bible in a language that is best understood by their members, hearts are transformed and the local church is well-equipped to disciple believers. Raymond joined Wycliffe in 2016 and served as a software developer on multiple projects. He currently works on an app called Scripture Forge, which gives Bible translation teams access to AI features that make translation work more efficient and accurate to the original biblical text. Lucy joined Wycliffe as a member in 2024, and works as an external engagement coordinator, stewarding relationships with the church of Canada and prospective missionaries with Wycliffe. Raymond and Lucy met at the Urbana missions conference in the United States on New Year’s Eve in 2015 and were married in 2019. Americas PIKKERT, Joost and Cheryl Joost and Cheryl met at Wheaton College in Illinois and after Joost completed his Ph.D., they joined Wycliffe and began working in Indonesia. Over the years they have been involved in Bible translation, multilingual education, ethnomusicology and administration. They have helped to write multilingual curriculum, encourage local music and raise funding for projects in more than 30 languages. They especially enjoy opportunities to train Indonesians, both in the field and through Indonesian Christian colleges and seminaries. They have two children, Charlotte and Quinn, and together they enjoy camping, eating Asian food, and playing board games. Americas M., Sara Sara has been a member of Wycliffe since 2014. In 2021, she started teaching academic software at the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL), a Wycliffe training partner in Western Canada. CanIL prepares students to work cross-culturally with minority language groups in linguistics and Bible translation. Learning to use specialized software packages is an important part of the training, as many Bible translation teams use various packages at different stages of the project. Sara also spends part of her time supporting SIL teams in Asia with software queries and training.
