H., Heidi

Heidi was hoping to move to Denmark during her journalism studies when her professor asked, “Would you consider studying in Hong Kong?” Consequently, a semester of study at Hong Kong Baptist University gave her a love for Asia and opportunities to visit China, intern in Cambodia, and work in India.

Then, when Heidi was about to return to Asia, a Cafe Wycliffe speaker in Winnipeg (where she is originally from) urged her to meet some Bible translators there. The next day Heidi read Joshua 1:9 (New Living Translation) “This is my command – be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Heidi changed her flights. From the first day of her visit, she was inspired by all of the amazing people she met, who told stories of their faith journeys and encouraged her to join them.

After moving to Asia, Heidi began serving with Wycliffe’s key partner, SIL, in 2015. She works alongside leaders of SIL and local Bible translation and language development organizations, sharing reports and stories of what God is doing through their ministries. In the past year, Heidi has been thrilled to celebrate the publication of eight New Testaments, two full Bibles, and a trilingual dictionary.

Heidi served as the Asia communications point person (2016-2019) and director of communications for SIL South & Islands Asia (2019-2024), working with the leadership team to increase communication between leaders and local staff. She has also developed children’s books with colleagues using SIL’s Bloom software for a mother tongue based multilingual education (MTB-MLE) program where children are learning to read and write in their own language.
