(2004 – 2008), the Wycliffe Global Alliance office in Singapore (2008 – 2010), the Wycliffe Global Alliance Asia-Pacific office in Manila, Philippines (2011 – 2016) and the Global Bible Translators in Korea (2017 – currently). South Pacific MEISNER, Janine Janine grew up in the Philippines as a daughter of missionary teachers, and knew from a young age that she also wanted to be a missionary teacher. After obtaining her degree, and gaining three years of experience in a Manitoba school, she joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2001. Janine’s experiences as a third culture kid (TCK) led her to move back to the Philippines in 2001. She had various roles at Faith International Academy in Davao City over the years which included teaching students in elementary (grades 3 & 5) and middle school (grades 6-8). She especially enjoyed being in leadership as the middle school lead teacher and then as the K-12 principal. ‎ KNAUBER, Martin and Beate Martin and Beate are from Germany and have been members of Wycliffe since 1982, the same year as they got married. Since then their family has grown to four children and nine grandchildren . . . and counting 🙂 In 1988 they went to Papua New Guinea (PNG) to live among the Dawawa people, where they began their ministry as linguists and Bible translators. Their work started out as a traditional project with language work, translation, literacy and later teachers’ training. Beate also did a lot of medical work in PNG as a licensed nurse. In 1998 they completed a hymn book and in 2003 they celebrated the dedication of the Dawawa New Testament. Over the course of their ministry among the Dawawa, they founded 7 local schools and were blessed to witness a tribal conversion in 2016, where the entire language group came together to publicly renounce spirit worship and dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ. After the dedication of the NT, they served as regional directors of East Papua where they also started a multi language project in 2005. In 2007 the Knaubers took on a new assignment to head up the NT translation for the Hutterite people in the USA and Canada. Martin and Beate continue to be involved with the translation of the Dawawa Old Testament and currently conduct their work among the Dawawa and the Hutterites from Abbotsford, BC. Martin’s main role is currently that of an International Translation Consultant and Beate also serves as a Certified Christian Conciliator. South Pacific BRIGNALL, Naaman and Lorae Naaman and Lorae and their two girls are on Makira Island, one of the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, working closely with a local language group. Bible translation, literacy, and the equipping of local workers are all part of their job. Naaman’s degrees in linguistics and anthropology mean that he does most of the technical language work. Africa SMOLDERS, Josh and Jenni Josh and Jenni Smolders have been members of Wycliffe Canada since 2012, and have been serving in linguistics and Bible translation in Ethiopia since 2014. They have four children, Fletcher (M, 2013), Theodore (M, 2017), Rordan (M, 2020), and Raewyn (F, 2023). Josh is originally from Ucluelet, B.C. and holds a Master’s of Linguistics degree from Trinity Western University (2012). Jenni is from Vancouver and holds a master’s degree in English Literature from Simon Fraser University. The work that Josh and Jenni do is the frontline of Bible translation. In 2016 they began working with the Opo community of Gambella, the westernmost state of Ethiopia, and in 2018 they started the Opo Scripture Translation Project in partnership with the Anglican Church in Ethiopia and the Norwegian Missions Society. Josh now leads a team of three mother-tongue translators to bring the Word of God into the Opo language. Americas ELYAS, Rachel Growing up in West Africa, Rachel was immersed in missions from an early age. Those experiences sparked a lasting passion for the global church and, in particular, for seeing people encounter God through Scripture in their own language. After returning to Calgary as a teenager, she pursued that calling, earning a master’s degree in linguistics and exegesis. In 2006, Rachel joined Wycliffe staff, and two years later she had the opportunity to serve overseas in a Bible translation project in Tanzania. It was there that she met her husband, Shady. They married in 2012 and moved to Toronto for Shady’s studies, while Rachel continued serving with Wycliffe. When they returned to Calgary in 2013, Rachel served first in Wycliffe’s applications department and later in partnership development, helping Wycliffe staff build strong partnerships with people and churches committed to prayer and giving. Today, Rachel serves as the Explorer Track Lead with Wycliffe’s Church Engagement team, where she leads the intern exchange program. She is passionate about giving the next generation an opportunity to see firsthand what God is doing around the world and to discover how they might be part of it. Rachel’s desire is to see the Canadian church not simply support the Bible translation movement, but own it and help lead it. Americas MOORE, Marjorie Marjorie grew up near London, Ont. With a heart for missions, she joined Wycliffe Canada in 1988, followed by linguistics training in Dallas, Texas, and French language learning in Tours, France. From 1993 to 2001, she served in Bible translation work among the Manza in the Central African Republic, while raising a young family. Since the fall of 2001, Marjorie has been serving in various roles at the Wycliffe Canada head office in Calgary. She is currently serving in the role of Office Administrator. She also reads and processes member project reports, which are required on a semi-annual basis to help Wycliffe be accountable for donations received and meet Canadian government requirements for funding activities outside of Canada. Field members need to report their activities as well as the impact resulting from these activities. Marjorie is encouraged by what the Lord is doing in various situations as she reads through the reports. Marjorie considers it a blessing and privilege to work in a Christian environment each day, with the common passion and goal of seeing God’s Word translated into indigenous languages, so that all may hear and know the one true God, and have the Scriptures in their own heart language. Marjorie has four grown children, two of whom are married, and four grandchildren. Southeast Asia INGLIS, Doug and Connie Doug and Connie, originally from Abbotsford, B.C., joined Wycliffe in 1986 and serve as Bible translators and linguistic consultants (in Asia since 1990). They have three children who grew up overseas: Mykal-Beth, Kendra (married to Mitch McDougall), and James. They also have four grandchildren. The Inglises have served in translation, linguistics and literacy with the Molbog people of the Philippines and the Ngochang people of Mainland Southeast Asia. Currently Doug, who has a PhD in linguistics, is associated with Payap University in Chiang Mai, Thailand, teaching and training Asian nationals, translating the New Testament for the Khamti people, and serving as a linguistics consultant. Americas LEPPKE, April April was born and raised in Southern Ontario, in the Listowel area. God called her into missions when she was in Bible college and she joined Wycliffe in 1990. April served in Indonesia in 1993 and 1994, and in the Philippines in 1994, in administration. In Wycliffe Canada’s Calgary office, April served for a number of years in finance, prayer ministries and personnel. She is currently serving on the island of Guam in the South Pacific. Her husband Phil formerly served with Trans World Radio—an evangelistic radio ministry that was a good fit for his technical skills. Phil now works with a local church part time, maintaining the facilities. April manages data on hundreds of Wycliffe Canada staff serving around the world. For example, the personnel information she manages helps Wycliffe care for staff members through keeping their ministry positions and country locations up to date. By keeping that specific information current, this allows the staff members to apply for the Canada Pension when they retire. Africa NATYNA, Daphne Daphne grew up in Minitonas, Man. She joined Wycliffe in 2001. Serving in the Calgary office for 12 years, she managed the mail room, provided reception relief and worked in various other roles. She also spent six months in Brazil serving with SIL, Wycliffe’s key partner organization. Since 2016, Daphne has lived in Cameroon, Africa. She has successfully offered a Scripture Engagement Training Course for the people of the Ndop Plain and in the Far North in Cameroon. The SE Training Course is being taught in other regions where SIL Cameroon is working.Since November 2021, Daphne has served as the Scripture Engagement Co-ordinator for SIL Cameroon. She is a consultant in training in Scripture Engagement.
