SIL joins UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition

SIL, Wycliffe’s key partner organization, has joined a group of UN agencies, international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), private and civil society members to further advance innovative learning initiatives for the world’s changing learning environments. Pooling the collective resources and expertise of this formidable team of education partners maximizes community engagement at global, national and local levels to develop stronger strategies to support student success around the world.

UNESCO estimates that in today’s COVID-19 educational climate, 1.2 billion students worldwide face the challenging problems resulting from school and university closures. Historically, school closures intensify educational inequality in under-resourced communities by striking a disproportionate blow to already vulnerable populations.

According to UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition site, “This coalition is dedicated to working with governments to find solutions to leave no one behind and elevate the importance of equity and gender equality in educational responses to the COVID-19 crisis.”
